MSU honored CBE-affiliated faculty Dr. Joseph Seymour with the Cox Family Award for Creative Scholarship and Teaching in May 2008. He received a $2,000 honorarium from the Winston and Helen Cox Family Endowment as well as an $800 stipend to be used to purchase books dedicated in his honor at MSU's Renne Library.

Dr. Bruce McLeod, Professor of Electrical Engineering and former dean of graduate studies at Montana State University, was recognized for contributions to the development and operation of the Great Plains Interactive Distance Education Alliance on April 8, 2008 in Kansas City, Missouri.

Dr. Brent Peyton, an associate professor in Chemical and Biological engineering, received the 2008 MSU College of Engineering Excellence in Research award.

2007 Outstanding Faculty Award

Garth James received this CBE award in recognition of his expanding sponsored research activity related to medical and dental biofilms, his exceptional service to industrial project sponsors, his thoughtful mentoring of graduate and undergraduate students, and active role in recruiting new member companies to the CBE.

2007 NSF Career Award

Dr. Sarah Codd, a Montana State University professor won a prestigious $400,000 Career Award from the National Science Foundation for her work in magnetic resonance microscopy, a technique that allows researchers to see the inner workings of devices as small as one-tenth of a millimeter in size. 2004 Provost's Award for Undergraduate Research/Creativity Mentoring

Dr. Philip Stewart, Professor of Chemical and Biological Engineering, and currently CBE Interim Director, was awarded the inaugural Provost's Award for Undergraduate Research/Creativity Mentoring in May, 2004. Since coming to MSU in 1991, Stewart has mentored 25 undergraduate students in substantive biofilm research projects at the CBE. Stewart has eagerly drawn undergraduates into the Center's world-class studies as early as their sophomore year. By getting them started early, Stewart helps them develop their skills over time. Students say they have loved working with Stewart. These students have produced published works, with some listed as the lead authors. Two undergraduates have been recognized with national awards—a Goldwater Scholarship and a Whitaker Graduate Research Fellowship. Eight are pursuing their research in graduate school.
