Shewanella oneidensis MR-1 has a versatile metabolism, but the
optimization of physiological states in response to external electron
acceptors is not well understood. S. oneidensis MR-1, a facultative,
g-Proteobacterium, can utilize numerous
organic and inorganic compounds including oxygen, nitrates, and metals. We
are interested in how environmental stimuli are sensed and processed in
order to optimize metabolism and physiological state to cellular activity
and survival. We are currently delineating the physiological roles of
conserved hypothetical proteins in MR-1.
