Biofilm Applications in the Environment

 

Biofilms present a range of unique opportunities for application in environmental technologies for cleanup and containment of hazardous wastes. Fundamental biofilm research at the CBE in microbial transport and kinetics is paving the way for utilizing biofilm in the environment. The CBE is currently demonstrating these applications in the following testbeds and commercial arenas:

  • Biobarriers
  • Bioremediation
  • "Green building" waste water treatment
