Research Highlights

25 Years of Industrial Interaction

The upcoming Technical Advisory Conference (TAC), to be held July 6th–8th, represents the 25th anniversary of this semi-annually hosted event. The first conference was held in Bozeman during the summer of 1980, and included 5 Industrial Associate companies. The TAC has grown to 24 companies with diverse interests in biofilms. See a list of current Industrial Associate companies at: http://www.erc.montana.edu/Ind-Col99-SW/IAP/ialist.htm

In keeping with the anniversary theme, this summer's TAC will feature current CBE researchers and a host of CBE alumni, invited back because of the impact of their work and also to illustrate the dissemination of biofilm knowledge around the world. If you'd like more information about the meeting, please contact paul_stu@erc.montana.edu.

Biofilm Control Group

At the Technical Advisory Conference, attendees will have the opportunity to get acquainted with the faculty, staff and students working in Dr. Phil Stewart's lab, also known as the Biofilm Control Lab. Their research will be presented at the conference in Session 5 – Alternative Control Strategies.

Education

Undergraduate Research Programs

Montana State University's summer undergraduate research program kicked off with a dinner on June 17th. CBE undergraduates and their mentors were invited to attend and meet students from all over the U.S. involved in REU, USP and other student programs. This summer the CBE has 38 undergraduate and high school students working on research projects. In addition to the Center undergraduates, we are hosting students from the programs below.

MAP Students (The goal of the Montana Apprenticeship Program (MAP) is to increase the number of Native American and disadvantaged high school students who want to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and math career fields). See a CBE student in action at the MAP homepage: http://www.montana.edu/wwwai/map_home.htm

BRIDGES Students (Bridging Tribal Colleges to MSU), a partnership between Montana State University and five tribal colleges.  For more program information see:
http://www.montana.edu/~wwwai/Bridges/bridges2_4.htm

INBRE Students (IDeA Networks of Biomedical Research Excellence) a five-year program (2004-2009) focusing on increasing the biomedical research capacity of the state of Montana. For more program information see:  http://www.brin.montana.edu/

The CBE continues to be a magnet for students from all over the state of Montana and the U.S. who wish to be a part of the excellent opportunities for research and learning available here.
