Outreach Award

Al Cunningham received the inaugural MSU College of
Engineering Outreach Award. This award was established to
recognize especially significant outreach achievement and/or a
body of work evolving from extensive outreach activities.
Over the past 25 years at MSU, Dr. Cunningham has developed
unique and nontraditional outreach activities that revolve
around education and industrial relations. His many outreach
efforts include: the establishment of the Biofilm Institute, a
not-for-profit public benefit corporation with the goal of
wide-spread dissemination of educational materials on biofilms
and their relevance to society; his productive involvement
with the Inland Northwest Research |

| Alliance (INRA); co-teaching a one-week short course for
the past ten years with Dr. Rainer Helmig at the University of
Stuttgart in Germany; and his exceptional and extensive
interactions with industry through the Center for Biofilm
Engineering. |
