Abstract:
"Osteomyelitis"
02-016 Osteomyelitis is characterized by bacterial or fungal
infection of the bone, commonly the cortical and/or medullary portion. The terms
osteo and myelo refer to bone and to the marrow cavity,
respectively, both of which are involved in the disease. This infectious disease
is progressive and results in inflammatory destruction of bone, bone necrosis,
and new bone formation.
