Dr. Anne Camper is Professor of Civil Engineering, Adjunct Professor of Microbiology and Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies, College of Engineering at Montana State University. She has also been involved with the Center for Biofilm Engineering at MSU since its inception. Her B.S. and M.S. degrees are in environmental microbiology, and her Ph.D. is in civil/environmental engineering.
Dr. Camper was unanimously appointed a Regents Professor by the Montana University System (MUS) Board of Regents in November 2013. Regents Professor is the system's top honor for faculty of distinction.
Her research interests are in biofilm growth and control in drinking and industrial water systems; the fate, transport and survival of pathogens in biofilm systems; and the physiology of biofilm bacteria. She has been the principal investigator or co-principal investigator on nearly 50 grants related to drinking water treatment or distribution. She is also involved in research investigating the relationship between water quality and health with community members on Montana’s Crow Reservation.
Research funding has been from industry, the US EPA, Army Research Office, National Science Foundation, National Institutes of Health, the American Water Works Association Research Foundation, the US Bureau of Reclamation, and the US Department of Agriculture.
She is a member of the American Water Works Association, serving on several national committees, the International Society of Microbial Ecology, the American Society for Microbiology where she currently serves as Division Advisor for Division Q - Environmental Microbiology, and the American Society for Engineering Educators.
